CANdot Series CFluorescent semiconductor nanoparticles in the IR range for material and life science

Particles made for new photovoltaic solutions

CANdot ® Series C: PbS nanoparticles suitable for the use as light absorber or IR emitter. Our Series C completes our range of semiconductor particles exhibiting a bandgap in the IR range. While macroscopic lead sulfide has a bandgap of 0.37 eV (analog to a wavelength of 3300 nm) it can be increased in nanoparticles with decreasing size up to 1.3 ev (analog to an absorption maximum at 950 nm). This effect is called size quantization effect.
The CANdot ® Series C particles are characterized by the following properties:

  • Band gap tunable between an absorption maximum between 950 and 1550 nm with a corresponding particle size between 3 and 6 nm
  • All different sizes absorb at least all wavelength below 950 nm (1.3 eV) and are therefore highly suitable as absorber material in photovoltaic and detectors
  • Narrow fluorescence bands due to small particle size distributions
  • High stability against heat and exposure to light
  • Homogeneously dispersible in non polar media like toluene
  • Ligand exchange for phase transfer into different media possible

The following products are available right now:

CANdot ® Series C are suitable for material science applications due to their solubility in unpolar, organic media. The band gap is tunable between 0.8 and 1.3 eV, which correspondents an absorption maximum between 950 and 1550 nm. These nanocrystals are therefore highly privileged as absorber material for QD solar cells as well as detector systems.
