CANdot Series Xfluorescent rare-earth doped nanoparticles

Fluorescent particles for preparation of colorless fluorescent inks.

The nanocrystals of CANdot ® Series X are specially designed for the use in applications, where fluorescent particles in a – without excitation totally colorless – homogeneous dispersion are needed.

They’re characterized by the following properties:

  • diameter of the particles < 30 nm, therefore well disperse- and printable
  • no influence of particle size on fluorescent properties
  • very unique emission spectrum
  • excitation only possible with UV-c light (250 nm), no effect upon radiation with UV-a (360 nm)
  • high stability versus heat and irradiation
  • homogeneously dispersible in water, methanol and ethanol
  • suitable for preparation of fluorescent inks

The CANdot ® Series X nanoparticles consist of an inorganic core, which is stabilized by organic ligands attached to the surface. These ligands allow dissolution of the particles in water and alcohols. The inorganic core is built up of a host lattice (e.g. bariumsulfate, yttriumvanadate or lanthanphosphate), which is doped with one or more rare-earth elements (e.g. Eu). By combining of these elements and varying the rate of dopant the emission features can easily be modified.

Since these particles can be composed into homogeneous colorless solutions and the emission features are very specific, the CANdot ® Series X nanoparticles are suitable for the use as security inks. Variation of emission characteristics and ink composition allows for preparation of custom-made ink solutions for different surfaces and materials.
